Science Village focuses on the present leading to the future. It offers virtual, hybrid and in-person STEM programs and opportunities. Whether hands-on, minds-on robotics, artificial intelligence, space, climate or nature activities, and challenges geared to all ages that encourage curiosity and the development of scientific and logical thinking.
A collaborative effort between BSPS, its Parent Involvement Committee, and the school council provided students and families with an education hub outside of the natural school environment to explore various science exhibits, take part in collaborative science experiments, as well as engage in play-based learning, communicating in both English and French. Through coordinated transportation, families accessed the event by bus from BSPS.
This cross-curricular opportunity displayed many ways that students and families engage in a variety of learning that encompass our Strategic Actions as part of DBS1s’ Strategic Plan. These actions include fostering the Strategic Actions of Relationships, Resiliency, Innovation, Trust, Growth Mindset, Courage, and Student Voice.
In highlighting our Strategic Actions of Growth Mindset, Science Timmins provided an environment for students to be curious and seek opportunities for growth in completing engaging, hands-on activities with families, such as Skee-Ball, miniature curling, cup stacking, speed stacking, and activities that harnessed the power of the wind.
Another Strategic Action showcased is Resiliency. Students and families explored the Science Timmins’ Science Village and embraced learning opportunities which challenged their minds and allowed them to adapt and grow.
